Getting Around Town

Relocating  to the area or just visiting?  If your flying in, the Fort Worth Meachum Airport is an international hub for air travel. The major travel routes such as US Interstate 35, US Interstate 20 or Hwy 114 move an estimated tens of millions of dollars in goods each day into and out of the DFW area.  Highways 121 and 820 also move tens of thousands of cars and trucks each day.  If your trying to get around in the metroplex, you can remember the main roads as follows. Coming south, I-35 splits around Denton into I-35 W (into Fort Worth) and I-35 E (into Dallas).  From Houston or Waco, you will either come up I-45 or I-35.  Again, I-35 splits this time heading north around Hillsboro into I-35 W (into fort Worth) and I-35 E (into Dallas).  Coming in from the west, you will most likely be coming in from I-20, and from the east you will come in on either I-30 or I-20.  Once in town, depending on where your going, there are a number of routes mentioned above that can will take you most of the way.

Some congestion points to be aware of are:

  • Highway 121 near the DFW International Airport
  • Highway 121 near the merger of I-635
  • I-30 in fort worth, exiting onto I-35 W northbound
(this area can be bad on race days)
  • Dallas I-35 E southbound at the I-30 exit
